SpringFest 2016
Back in my freshman year, I helped out with setting up our annual SpringFest concert, held on April 21, 2016 in Cheel Arena. At this point, even though I was the Lighting Chair for Clarkson Union Board (CUB), I got to “sit back” and just set up the equipment for the concert. The lighting and sound for the show itself is run by our production company, but we help out with all the work that goes into building the stage and setting up the lights and speakers. In 2016 we had co-headliners Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness and Hoodie Allen perform, and I was tasked with operating one of the spot lights during Andrew’s half of the show. I then helped move a baby grand piano off stage during the set change — that itself got a round of applause, since we had to tip it onto its side to go into its road case.
For CUB, SpringFest is really the one event that sorts out all of the members who are really dedicated to the club. We have to be at the arena around 6am, and we’re usually not done cleaning up until 2am, if not later. It’s definitely a challenging day, but it’s always a great feeling to see a huge crowd enjoying a concert and being able to say “I did that.”
